Base Defence Guide
First, a fleet is not for base defence - it is there to protect your trade routes.
Too large a fleet over a base is asking for an attack from a higher level player as he will attack the fleet and the base, he will get you with a double whammy.
He gets the base pillage and will send in recyclers to profit from the debs of your fleet.
This is a game of economics, you have to make any attack on your bases unprofitable.
You can build up to 1000 fighters as a base defence fleet when you are under level 30, once you have the tech to build dreadnaughts replace the fighters with 1 to 2 dreadnaughts full of fighters per base.
Defence for players under level 10:DO NOT BUILD BARRACKS, they can be defeated by only 10 fighters.Research missiles and build missile turrets as your first defence turret, try to have one level of turrets up on each of your bases when you come out of protection at level 10.
Level 10 to 15:The next defence you should research is Plasma to enable you to build plasma turrets, as soon as you have the tech replace the missile turrets with plasma turrets removing the missile turrets after you build the stronger turrets.Trade defence fleet: 100 - 250 fighters.
Level 15 to 20:Keep researching tech ! You should now be able to build ion turrets or maybe even photon turrets, once again replace the weaker turrets after you have the larger ( ask me how i know :) ).Trade defence fleet: 250 - 500 fighters.
Level 20 - 23:Build photon turrets. if you have the tech, disruptor turrets, replace the weaker defences.Trade defence fleet: 500 - 1000 fighters.
Level 23-28: Build disruptor turrets, replace weaker defences again.By this stage you should be researching the tech to build p-rings and try to aim for 1 level of p-rings over ALL your bases before you go over level 30.Trade defence fleet: 1000 fighters max and 1 dreadnought asap.
Level 28 -30:Build P- rings, 1 level per base, leave the disruptor turrets up until you have a second level of p-rings.Trade defence fleet: 1000 fighters and 1-2 dreadnoughts asap.
Level 30 to 40:Aim for 2 levels of p-rings, 1 level of p-shields. Remove the disruptor turrets once you have these built .Trade defence fleet: 1- 2 dreds with their compliment of fighters (only 200 fighters per dred).
Level 40 and beyond As listed above unless the base has a capital and or a jump gate then add a extra level of p-shields and maybe another level of p-rings as well.This is now a fortress baseTrade defence fleet: 2 dreds and 400 fighters.
How many turrets should you build per base you ask?A good rule of thumb is one level of defence turrets PER 25 credits of base economy.For exampleBase economy 50 credits - 2 levels of defensive structures.Base economy 100 credits - 4 levels defensive structures.
Any other fleet, keep them jumping between your bases unless you are using them for an attack - they cannot be attacked while moving. This guide works very well, You may be occupied a few times but it will cost the attacker more than he makes and they will give it up.This IS a long term strategy as is will mean juggling your bases incomes between building up your bases/ building new bases, building a attack fleet, building strong defences and research.
